The
EMMI
can
provide
solutions
in
multiple
applications.
One
of
EMMIís
roles
is
in
the
video
conference
arena
where
it
can
be
used
as
the
Multimedia
interface.
In
the
applications
we
see
this
week,
however,
the
EMMIs
are
used
for
medical
imaging
to
support
remote
diagnostics.
The
patient
is
located
with
a
clinician
in
a
remote
clinic
while
the
radiologist
is
assumed
to
be
at
a
hospital.
The
doctor
is
able
to
guide
the
clinician
via
the
multimedia
sessions
established
between
the
two
locations.
This
demonstration
will
use
an
ultrasound
modality
to
examine
the
patient's
body
and
propagate
the
information
to
the
radiologist
in
a
lossless
mode.
The
NTSC
video
will
be
converted
into
ATM
cells
and
digitally
transmitted
to
the
distant
location.
There
the
process
will
be
reversed.
